“Don’t be absent from office during working hours”, Punjab government warns employees

The Punjab government has warned government employees not to remain absent from the office during working hours after marking their attendance. The Personnel Department has issued instructions stating that the “No Work, No Pay” rule will apply if they remain absent without permission, and their salaries will be withheld accordingly. Disciplinary action will also be taken against employees found absent without permission. All administrative departments have been directed to ensure strict compliance with these instructions.

A few months ago, the Bihar government issued a similar order. In order to strengthen punctuality, accountability, and work culture in government offices, biometric attendance was made mandatory for all government officials and employees in the state. This system was implemented in all government offices, from the Panchayat level to the district level.

According to an order issued by the General Administration Department on June 1, the attendance of employees and officers will be recorded through the Bihar Biometric Attendance System (BBAS). All officers and employees working in panchayat, block, subdivision, and district-level offices will register their attendance through this system.

According to the government, the biometric system will provide a real-time and digital record of employee attendance and reduce the need for human intervention. The government aims to ensure employees arrive at the office on time and increase accountability and transparency in government operations.

Action may be taken if you arrive late

The order stated that in light of complaints about employees arriving late and leaving early in government offices, it was decided to effectively implement a technology-based monitoring system. Administrative action may be taken against employees who fail to arrive at the office on time. Late arrivals may also result in leave adjustments or salary deductions. The government clarified that employees’ salaries will be paid based on biometric attendance records.
