Mokama’s Bahubali MLA Anant Singh will once again go to jail. New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday cancelled the bail granted to Mokama MLA Anant Singh in the Dularchand Yadav murder case. The court has directed Anant Singh to surrender to the authorities on or before December 1, 2026. The court has given four months time to the Bihar government to complete the investigation of the case. The matter will be heard again after the investigation is completed.
Justice M.M. Sundesh and Justice P.V. Varale’s bench said that the Patna High Court’s decision to grant bail to Anant Singh was wrong as the high court had not taken into account the nature of the offence and the criminal history of Anant Singh. Therefore, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order and cancelled Anant Singh’s bail. The bail granted to the accused Anant Singh by the High Court was challenged in the Supreme Court.
The High Court’s order was challenged in the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court, while hearing a petition challenging Singh’s release, stayed the high court’s bail order and cancelled the relief granted to him. The petition was filed by the deceased’s grandson Neeraj Kumar. He had argued that Anant Singh’s criminal history was not properly considered while granting him bail. Questions were also raised about the non-disclosure of Anant Singh’s criminal record in this challenge. During the hearing, it was said on behalf of the petitioner that 67 criminal cases were registered against Anant Singh, but the High Court did not consider it properly while granting bail.
Anant Singh’s lawyer Siddharth Dave questioned the figure of 67 cases. He said 13 cases were pending against him and only one of them contained sections related to murder and attempt to murder. Anant Singh’s counsel also contended that the statements of some witnesses did not support the allegations that he was present at the spot and was involved in the incident.
The high court had granted bail on March 19.
The Supreme Court said that mere saying that the cases registered against the accused are due to political enmity is not enough. It is also important to pay attention to the seriousness of the charges and the criminal record of the accused while granting bail. On March 19, 2026, the Patna High Court had granted regular bail to Anant Singh on a bond of Rs 15,000. The court had also warned them not to tamper with the prosecution’s evidence during the trial or intimidate the witnesses.

JD(U) expels Anant Singh from party
