Don’t forget to make this mistake! Can the material used in Shraddha be kept in the general puja?

Pitru Paksha has special significance in Hinduism and during this time special deeds are performed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. Performing tarpan in the name of ancestors and taking out food for them is considered prominent.

In Shraddha Paksha, people perform many deeds like tarpan and pind daan to get the blessings of the ancestors. In all the Shraddha rituals performed for the ancestors, many materials like sesame, barley, rice, barley flour, roli, molli are used and many things are left after worshiping the ancestors.

In such a situation, a common question that comes to the minds of people is whether this leftover material can be used later in worship? Let us tell you what to do with the material used in Shraddha rituals?

What are the things used in Shraddha?

During Shraddha, black sesame seeds, barley, rice, barley flour, roli, kalava, incense, ghee, fruits, flower garlands, banyan leaves, cow dung cakes or kanda, betel leaves, betel nut, cloves, cardamom and camphor are used in the worship of ancestors.

All these materials are such that they are also used in daily worship, but mainly when these things are used for Shraddha, the remaining materials should not be used in the worship of gods and goddesses, nor should they be used in any other work in the house.

Can Shraddha materials be used in worship?

Any deeds performed during Shraddha are dedicated to the ancestors and this brings peace to their souls. The purpose of these deeds is to express reverence to the ancestors and this blesses the descendants. Usually, in the worship of ancestors, the same things are used that you use in common worship.

In particular, you should not use pinddan, tarpan or all the materials offered to the ancestors in the common puja. In the Puranas, the place of ancestors is said to be different from God. For this reason, no material used in ancestor worship should be used in the worship of God.

What to do with the leftover material of Shraddha?

Whatever material is left after the worship of the ancestors, you can use it in the worship of the immersion of the ancestors on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya. You should take these things out of the house after Sarvapitri Amavasya. You should immerse them in a holy river with reverence. Do not use any leftover material for worship or food related things in the house.

If you also perform the Shraddha of ancestors in the house, then the things mentioned here should be taken care of for the materials used in it.
