Kuber Dev, the treasurer of the gods, had immense wealth. Gradually, due to this immense wealth, arrogance came into his mind. They began to feel that they could achieve anything and satisfy anyone. In this arrogance, one day he reached Kailash to Lord Shiva and said with pride, “O Lord! I want you to come to my palace with your entire family and enjoy the grand banquet I have organized. “
Lord Shiva immediately understood that behind this invitation of Kubera it was not faith but arrogance to show off his wealth. Shiva said very calmly, “Kubera, there is no meaning of such a grand event for a monk like me. It would be better if you give this food to a needy and hungry person, it will give you true virtue. “
Kubera’s arrogance dominated him. They said, “Lord, I feed thousands of people every day. It’s not a big deal for me. It is my heartfelt wish that today your family accepts the hospitality of my glory. “
It was necessary to break this arrogance of Kubera. Shiva smiled and said, “Well, I can’t come myself, but you can take my younger son Ganesha with you.” Just keep one thing in mind, Ganesha is very hungry and is not easily satisfied. “
Kubera said proudly, “Don’t worry, I have no end of food and money. I will definitely satisfy Ganesha. “
Kuber arrived at his grand palace with Bal Ganesha. He prepared a variety of delicious dishes in the kitchen and started serving Ganesha. Ganesha started eating. They were eating one dish after another, but their hunger was not taking the name of satisfied. Soon, all the utensils in the palace were empty. All the food that the cooks had prepared was gone. Even Kubera’s vast stores of food were completely empty, but Ganesha’s hunger was not taking the name of extinction. They smiled and asked for food.
Seeing this, Kubera’s hands and feet swelled. He realized his helplessness that all his wealth and resources could not satisfy the hunger of a small child. Frustrated and ashamed, Kuber rushed to Kailash and fell at the feet of Shiva. He confessed his mistake and cried, “Lord! Save me, all my pride is shattered. “
Then Ganesha also reached there. Goddess Parvati gave a small modak to Ganesha with great love and affection. As soon as he ate the small modak lovingly given by the mother’s hand, Ganesha’s stomach was filled and he was completely satisfied.
Seeing this, Kubera’s eyes opened. He understood that wealth and resources could not satisfy one’s hunger or desire, it required love and humility. Kuber apologized to Shiva and Ganesha and vowed never to boast of his position or property in life.
Lessons of the Context
Don’t boast of success: Getting wealth, big position, or fame in life may be the result of your hard work, but don’t let it become arrogance in your behavior. Remember that time is never the same. What you have today may belong to someone else tomorrow. So be grateful when you succeed, not arrogant.
Stay away from pretending: Kuber Ji wanted to show off his wealth to Lord Shiva. Even in today’s time, people spend money just to demonstrate their status. No work done in the pursuit of appearance can give you peace. Real respect lies in simplicity and truth.
Help the needy: In the story, Shiva advised Kuber Dev to feed someone hungry or needy. The rule of a happy life is to use whatever resources (money, knowledge, or time) you have in abundance, for the good of others. The happiness that comes from serving society is greater than anything material.
Understand the importance of love and emotion: Ganesha was not satisfied with Kubera’s vast granary, but was satisfied with the small food given by the love of Goddess Parvati. This means that love is more important than outward in relationships and life. Whenever you deal with your family and friends, keep intimacy in it, not money.
Learn to accept mistakes and ask for forgiveness: When Kubera realized his mistake, he sought forgiveness from Shiva without delay. A person is one who recognizes his mistake and has the courage to correct it. Admitting one’s mistake does not make a person smaller, but makes his personality more great.
Recognize the limitation of resources: Thinking that money can buy everything is a huge mistake. With money, you can accumulate comforts, but you cannot buy peace, health, true respect and love. Instead of boasting about your resources, use them in the right direction.
