AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda targeted the BJP government for not conducting special Girdavari !

Why the Delay in the Special Crop Damage Assessment Following Hailstorms and Rain? Naib Demands an Explanation from the Government: Anurag Dhanda

Chandigarh, March 21, 2026
Aam Aadmi Party’s National Media In-charge, Anurag Dhanda, has launched a scathing attack on the BJP government and Chief Minister Nayab Singh regarding the crops devastated by the recent hailstorms, heavy rains, and gusty winds in Haryana. He stated that while this natural calamity has wiped out a year’s worth of hard work for farmers across the entire state, the government’s insensitivity is such that, to date, neither has any concrete damage assessment survey been conducted, nor has any clear announcement regarding compensation been made.

Anurag Dhanda noted that in several districts—including Panipat, Karnal, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Bhiwani, and Kurukshetra—heavy rains and strong winds have caused 60 to 70 percent of the wheat and mustard crops to be flattened on the ground. In many areas, continuous rainfall ranging from 10 to 20 mm was recorded, leading to waterlogging in the fields and pushing the crops to the brink of total ruin. Furthermore, waterlogging in the grain markets resulted in mustard sacks getting soaked, subjecting farmers to a double blow.

He asserted that this is not merely a loss of crops; it is a direct assault on the farmers’ hopes and the future of their families. Farmers take loans to purchase seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, and toil day and night; yet, when a natural disaster strikes, the BJP government completely vanishes from the scene.

Taking a direct jibe at Chief Minister Nayab Singh, Anurag Dhanda asked whether his chair is so important to him that he remains blind to the devastation faced by the farmers. He questioned whether the Chief Minister has visited even a single affected village to ask a farmer how he is expected to sustain his household. Today, while the farmer weeps upon seeing his ruined standing crop in the field, the Chief Minister sits in silence.

He added that the extent of the government’s negligence can be gauged from the fact that, in many places, the *Girdawari* (official crop damage assessment) process has not even commenced yet. In areas where immediate surveys and relief measures should have been provided, farmers are instead being forced to wait. This clearly demonstrates that farmers are not a priority for the BJP government. Anurag Dhanda stated that this government—which raised the slogan of “Prosperous Farmers” during the elections—has today left farmers completely helpless. Crops lie flattened across the fields, tears fill the farmers’ eyes, while government leaders remain occupied solely with rhetoric and theatrics. This is not a “Double Engine” government, but rather a “Double Deceit” government that turns its back on farmers during every crisis.

Anurag Dhanda has demanded that a special crop damage assessment (*Girdawari*) be initiated across the entire state immediately; that a transparent and time-bound survey be conducted; and that, following an accurate assessment of the crop damage, appropriate compensation be deposited directly into the farmers’ bank accounts. Furthermore, he urged the Chief Minister to personally visit the affected areas, engage in dialogue with the farmers, and announce a concrete relief package.

Anurag Dhanda warned that if the government fails to provide immediate relief and justice, the Aam Aadmi Party will raise the farmers’ demands at every level.
