The Centre has provided ‘Y’ category CISF security cover to TMC Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from May 19 onwards, following a threat assessment by central agencies.The security cover includes armed personnel for close protection during travel and public engagements. According to official sources, the security arrangement was implemented with immediate effect after central agencies evaluated potential threats to the TMC MP.
The move incidentally comes just days after she was replaced as the party’s chief whip in Lok Sabha by her colleague Kalyan Banerjee. Incidentally Dastidar had been appointed as TMC chief whip just eight months back in August 2025. She then had replaced Banerjee.
Though Dastidar had not directly reacted on being replaced as the party’s chief whip in the lower house, the Barasat MP aired her disappointment in a cryptic post on social media.
“Known each other since 1976, began our journey together in 1984. Today I have been rewarded for four decades of loyalty,” she wrote in a pointed reference to her long-time association with Mamata Banerjee.
Sources aware of details however rubbished speculations of her joining the BJP.
