Suddenly the mobile siren sounded: Testing of the emergency alert system across the country, what is the whole matter?

On Saturday, the smartphones of millions of people across the country suddenly rang with a loud alarm. Many people were terrified by this unique experience, but it was not a sign of any danger but a testing of the emergency alert system by the government.

Govt conducts pan-India test

The central government tested the mobile emergency alert system across the country on 2 May 2026. This test is part of the preparation to inform citizens immediately at the time of disaster.

NDMA sends flash SMS alert

This alert was sent as a flash SMS from the National Disaster Management Authority. As soon as the alert came, the mobile was activated with loud noise and flashing messages.

Use of ‘Cell Broadcast Alert’ technology

This system is called ‘Cell Broadcast Alert’, which is capable of delivering messages to all mobile users present in a particular area simultaneously. This technology is considered to be very effective in emergency situations.

Alert issued from SACHET platform

The alert was sent through the SACHET system, which has been developed by C-DOT. It is based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP).

Immediate alert at the time of disaster

The purpose of this system is to provide immediate warning to people during earthquakes, tsunamis, thunderstorms, gas leaks or other disasters. This will help people to move to a safe place in time.

No need to panic, it was just a test

The government had already made it clear that this is only a trial and no action is required for it. People have been appealed not to panic when such alerts come.

The system will soon be implemented across the country.

After the completion of testing across the country, this emergency alert system will be implemented on all mobile phones. Through this, alerts will be sent in different Indian languages, so that information can easily reach every section.
