Without declaring any new infrastructure project to solve traffic issues, the ruling BJP in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) instead pushed for completion of already proposed and ongoing projects.
“We are committed to resolving the traffic issues of the city. We will undertake the proposed 14.5-km underground twin tunnel from Yerwada to Swargate. Another underground tunnel is proposed from Shaniwarwada to Swargate to decongest Shivaji road and Bajirao road in the heart of the city,” said Srinath Bhimale, chairperson of the standing committee during the Budget presentation.
The BJP plans to establish a 200-km Metro network in the city after getting two routes operational and starting work on other routes as planned, Bhimale said, adding there are plans to construct integrated flyovers at Kothrud bus depot, Ambedkar Chowk in Warje and Dandekar bridge with vehicular traffic on the first level and Metro on the second level.
