A boat carrying 12 people, including children, was on its way ashore from a flood-hit area when the boat capsized in the middle of the stream and all the people drowned. On the night of October 2, a major accident was averted on the flood-ravaged Purwa-Avseri Khera road in Bindki tehsil. All of them drowned when a boat carrying 12 people capsized while returning from watching the riot from Galatha village. After the accident, there was chaos on the spot. The water level of the Ganges has worsened, boats are the only support.
According to the information about this incident in Fatehpur, at around 9 pm, 12 people including Harelal, Balkrishna, Amar, Kundan, residents of Avseri Khera and Jade Ka Purwa were returning in a canoe. During this time, the boat suddenly lost balance and everyone started drowning in deep water. This caused an outcry among the people. Due to the water level of the Ganges being above the danger mark, a large part of the Purwa-Avseri Kheda road was washed away during winter. Boats were being arranged by the administration for transportation here, but the villagers allege that there are neither enough boats nor boatmen on the spot. People are compelled to reach the city by small canoe or boat and buy goods.
Police rescue operation in the dark, struggle to save lives under the light of a torch
As soon as the accident happened, the people present around reached the spot after hearing the noise. As soon as the information about the boat capsizing in the village, there was a stir in the administration. The police reached the spot and started the rescue along with the villagers. Due to nightfall, there was a lot of difficulty in the rescue work. The rescue operation continued under the light of torches and mobile phones. In the viral video, it can be clearly seen that a policeman wearing uniform is himself descending into waist-deep water and carrying a child in his lap to the shore. The villagers also risked their lives to evacuate everyone. It is a matter of relief that there is no loss of life in this accident.
Questions raised on negligence, demand for permanent solution
SDM Bindki Nishant Tiwari said that instructions have been given to deploy boats and boatmen on the spot. Despite this, how the accident happened will be investigated thoroughly. Villagers say that the same situation arises every year during floods, but the administration is not constructing a permanent bridge or a high road. At present, all 12 people, including children, have been safely evacuated and there is a sigh of relief in the village. At the same time, the District Magistrate was contacted on this matter but no response was received.
