Dialogue Partner, Raxaul (East Champaran). Raxaul (East Champaran). The tightening of customs on the Indo-Nepal border has stopped the pace of border trade. Due to the strict checks and procedures of the Nepalese authorities, the freight movement is being affected, which has increased the concern of Indian businessmen. The situation has become such that the traders have intensified the demand for intervention from the central government, so that the cross-border trade can be normalized again.
It is said that due to the strictness of customs (customs) rules on the Indo-Nepal border, business activities in the border areas have started to be affected. In this regard, the Textiles Chamber of Commerce, Raxaul has sent a memorandum through e-mail to the concerned ministries of the Government of India seeking immediate intervention.
He said that this new rule is causing huge losses, especially to the small and middle class traders. The decline in trade is also expected to adversely affect the revenues of the Government of India, especially the GST collections.
The Chamber has also mentioned in its memorandum that there has been a traditional relationship of ‘roti-beti’ between India and Nepal for years, but due to the current situation, social and family activities are also being affected in the border areas of the two countries. People are also facing unnecessary problems in events like marriages.
The Chamber has demanded from the Central Government that the issue should be resolved at the earliest through high-level talks with the Government of Nepal, so that business and social life can be normalized in the border areas. Otherwise, prolonging the situation may have serious and long-term negative impact on the economy of the border area.
