The Vrindavan boat tragedy has claimed the life of a promising young cricketer from Jagraon, as 19-year-old Rishabh Sharma was among those who lost their lives in the incident.
Rishabh, a resident of Ram Nagar in Jagraon, had recently completed his senior secondary education and joined a cricket academy in Chandigarh with aspirations of excelling in the sport.
Known for his dedication, he not only worked on improving his own game but also provided free coaching to young aspirants who could not afford formal training.
His parents, Umesh Bawa and Uma Sharma, had been hoping against hope for his return since the boat carrying 38 devotees capsized in the Yamuna on April 10. Their hopes were shattered on April 12 when his body was recovered nearly three kilometres from the accident site.
The tragedy has left the family devastated, including his grandfather Rama Kant Sharma, a retired PSPCL employee. The grieving parents were seen helplessly on the banks of the Yamuna as they awaited news of their son.
Rishabh’s untimely death has also deeply affected several young cricketers in the locality who looked up to him as a mentor and guide. “We don’t think we will be able to continue now,” sighed two school-going cricketers of Ram Nagar, mourning the loss of their mentor and motivator.
