Jeevika Didi, who constantly make the society aware, is now playing an important role in environmental protection as well.
Didis are running the Green Jeevika, Harit Bihar programme, under which more than four crore saplings have been planted across the state by about one crore Didis in the last six years.
According to the data of the Rural Development Department, from the financial year 2019 to 2024-25, 987 nurseries have been developed by the hands of Didis across the state. These include 677 Didi’s nursery.
Promotion of Plantation
Didi’s Nursery has emerged as a unique enterprise model, increasingly promoting low-cost plantation. At the same time, nursery operators have created a stable and sustainable source of income for women.
The nurseries run by Jeevika Didis are functioning as community enterprises. This has created a new path for environmental protection and rural economic development.
Selection of Didis for Nursery is done through a Cluster Level Association. In this, only those Didis are selected who are active members of the Self Help Group and have a good reputation in terms of repayment of loans along with proper adherence to the rules of the group.
Training is given
These Didis are given training by the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change to prepare plants for timber.
Also, 15-day residential training on conservation and care of fruit trees is being provided at Centre for Excellence, Desari, Vaishali under the Directorate of Horticulture, Agriculture Department.
