Investors duped of Rs 2.5 crore in Yamunanagar cryptocurrency fraud, 6 booked

Police have booked six persons for allegedly duping several investors of over Rs 2.5 crore in a suspected cryptocurrency investment fraud in Yamunanagar district.

According to the complaint by Sukhpreet Singh, the accused — Ramesh Dutta and Hemant Bhatnagar from Yamunanagar; Amit Khera, Harnek Singh, and Vinay Gupta from Panchkula; and Dutta Priyanshu from New Zealand — allegedly lured victims with promises of high returns through a company offering cryptocurrency investments.

The complainant told the police that the accused lured people by promising high returns on investments through a company.

Believing these assurances, he initially invested around Rs 2.24 lakh and received some returns in the beginning. Encouraged by this, he referred acquaintances to the scheme, who also invested significant amounts.

The complainant added that the accused organised meetings and seminars in hotels and even arranged foreign trips for some investors to create a sense of credibility.

“Over time, I and several other people I know invested our savings of more than Rs 2.5 crore in the companies of the accused persons,” he told the police.

The complainant said that when investors tried to withdraw their money, they began facing difficulties.

“The trading shown by the company was completely fake, and profits were manipulated through dummy accounts. When larger sums were invested, the system was altered, preventing withdrawals,” he alleged.

He also claimed that when investors demanded their money back, some were threatened by the accused.
