Haryana Roadways is committed to providing safe and timely transport to passengers across the state. With 24 depots and 13 sub-depots, it runs about 4,108 buses, covering nearly 11.38 lakh kilometres daily and serving around 6.03 lakh passengers.
A department spokesperson said that besides ensuring safe travel, Haryana Roadways also fulfils its social responsibilities by implementing government welfare measures.
The corporation provides free or concessional travel to nearly 40 categories of passengers.
In 2007, the government allowed 100 per cent ‘Divyang’ (differently-abled) persons free travel in Haryana Roadways buses within the state, along with one attendant. In 2010, this was extended to Chandigarh and Delhi.
‘Divyang’ persons in the state had been demanding that those with less than 100 per cent disability also get free travel in ordinary buses.
Accepting the demand, the government has now extended free travel in ordinary Haryana Roadways buses to ‘Divyang’ persons with 40 to 99 per cent disability.
The State Transport Department’s Administrative Secretary issued the notification on April 24, after consultation with Finance Department.
About 1.22 lakh ‘Divyang’ persons in the state will benefit from the decision.
