Grand Venice Mall owner Montu Bhasin arrested, sent to 14-day judicial custody

The owner of Grand Venice Mall, Satendra Bhasin alias Montu Bhasin, was arrested by the Beta-2 Kotwali police on Friday, after which he was produced in the CJM court in Surajpur. From there, the court ordered to be sent to jail in judicial custody for 14 days. The arrest was made in connection with a cheating case registered in 2015.

According to the police, the accused had not been cooperating in the investigation for a long time and was not appearing in court despite a non-bailable warrant. For this reason, the police were looking for him and he was finally caught. The prosecution said that on April 2, 2026, the Supreme Court cancelled his bail and asked him to surrender within a week. It was also said that the police should arrest him if he did not surrender on time. Despite this, he neither surrendered nor obeyed the court’s orders after the dismissal of his petition for extension of time on April 8.

Investors associated with the Grand Venice Project have accused him of fraud, fund diversion, misuse of funds and irregularities in allocation. At the same time, defense advocate Amit Chauhan opposed the police remand. He said that the case is about 10 years old. According to him, the investigation of this case has been completed. He said that the main charge sheet was filed in the year 2019. This was followed by supplementary charge sheets in 2022 and 2025. He said that all the evidence is already before the court. The defence argued that there were no further seizures. Therefore, the demand for police remand is not necessary. He also called it legally wrong. He also mentioned the interim protection received from the Supreme Court in the year 2019. He also said that about Rs 50 crore will be deposited. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court sent the accused to judicial custody for 14 days.
