From 10 to 3: Now Sanjay Singh, ND Gupta, Seechewal hold fort for AAP after 7 join BJP

Minutes after announcing that seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs would merge with BJP, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal arrived at the BJP national headquarters to formalise the move.

The three MPs said they had invoked constitutional provisions, claiming more than two-thirds of AAP’s Rajya Sabha members had merged with BJP.

“Seven MPs have signed the document, which was submitted to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. I, along with two other MPs, personally handed over the signed documents,” Chadha said, reiterating his earlier position.

Out of AAP’s 10 Rajya Sabha MPs, only three now remain with the party — Sanjay Singh, ND Gupta and Balbir Singh Seechewal.

Chadha, Pathak, Swati Maliwal, Ashok Mittal, Rajinder Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney and Harbhajan Singh have signed the letter to form a two-thirds bloc and merge AAP’s group in the Upper House with BJP.

This will increase BJP’s numbers in the Rajya Sabha.

Pathak, Chadha and Mittal will formally join BJP after talks at the party’s national headquarters, where they are meeting BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh and Tarun Chugh.

Chadha did not respond when asked to comment on his colleague Sanjay Singh calling him a traitor.
