Delhi police on Monday said that it has taken cognisance of an alleged assault on the family of a serving Army officer in south-west Delhi, and has registered an FIR in this regard, an official said on Monday.
The cop added that during a preliminary inquiry, a lapse was found on the part of the Investigating Officer (IO), who has since been transferred to district lines, pending further action.
According to Brigadier Ashok Bijalwan, the incident occurred on the night of April 11 at around 10.00 pm near his residence in Vasant Enclave.
He alleged that his family noticed two individuals consuming alcohol inside a car, parked in a public place.
When they objected to the alleged illegal drinking, the situation escalated. The individuals reportedly called for reinforcements, following which 7 to 8 more people arrived in multiple vehicles.
The group allegedly assaulted the Brigadier’s son, causing serious injuries, and also manhandled the officer.
Despite a call being made to the police helpline on 112, and the arrival of a PCR van at the scene, no effective intervention was carried out, the Brigadier alleged. The assault reportedly took place in the presence of police personnel.
The family later approached the Vasant Vihar police station to lodge a complaint.
However, they alleged that their FIR was not registered at the time and medical assistance was not facilitated. The injured were subsequently taken to a military hospital for treatment.
Police officials stated that a written complaint has now been received and appropriate legal action is being initiated.
Further investigation is under way.
