BJP’s mayoral pick from Panchkula ‘accused in road construction scam’: MP Deepender Hooda

Congress MP Deepender Hooda on Sunday accused the BJP’s triple-engine government of 12 years of corruption and failing the people of Haryana.

Campaigning in Panchkula in support of the party’s mayoral candidate, Sudha Bhardwaj, and its various ward candidates for the municipal elections, he said the BJP’s mayoral candidate “stands accused in a road construction scam”.

During the campaign, MPs Varun Chaudhary and Karamvir Baudh were present alongside him.

Deepender Hooda subsequently held public election rallies at various locations—including Wards 13-14, the Sector 21 Market, Wards 17-18, the Ambedkar Chowk Community Center, Sectors 25-26, Ward No. 20, and the village of Khatoli—appealing to the public to ensure the victory of Congress candidates by a massive margin.

Addressing journalists at the Congress election office in Panchkula, he stated that the BJP, through a deliberate conspiracy, has derailed the implementation of women’s reservation.

“The BJP has failed to allocate tickets to women candidates; in stark contrast, the Congress party has allotted tickets to four out of five women candidates. The BJP is offering women nothing but inflation. We will continue to fight unitedly until women’s reservation is fully implemented across the entire country,” he said.

Deepender said Chief Minister Nayab Saini is advocating for the formation of a “triple engine” government as a means to improve the condition of the state’s cities.

“However, a ‘triple engine’ government has already been in power for the past 12 years—yet all three of its engines have completely failed. The Chief Minister’s very statement serves as a symbolic admission of his impending defeat,” he said.

“For the past 12 years, the BJP’s ‘triple-engine’ government has been engaged in looting the people of the state through corruption. Among the various forms of corruption under the BJP’s triple-engine rule, corruption within the municipal corporations ranks number one. There is not a single corporation where a scam has not taken place,” he added.

“In the Faridabad Corporation, roads worth Rs 200 crore were constructed merely on paper—in the files—yet no one knows where they were actually built. In the Panchkula Corporation, Rs 160 crore simply vanished; in other words, they committed corruption without even bothering to hide it. A land scam came to light in the Rohtak Corporation. Elsewhere, scams related to sanitation and contracting have occurred,” he pointed out.

Deepender said there is not a single BJP MLA left who is not involved in the illegal development of unauthorised colonies. He said BJP MLAs carve out colonies, while the public is left to endure days of hardship. BJP councilors view securing government contracts as a birthright bestowed upon them by the party.

“This is precisely why the Chief Minister is compelled to visit every city and urge the public to elect a ‘triple-engine government’ to improve urban conditions. Had the BJP actually performed well, they would not have been forced to deny tickets to their incumbent Mayors. The BJP’s mayoral candidate from Panchkula stands accused in a road construction scam. In Sonipat, the BJP’s mayoral candidate is implicated in a scam involving the procurement of dates,” he said.

Raising the issue of Panchkula’s dismal state, he remarked that the city currently faces severe problems regarding water drainage, sewage systems, and sanitation; furthermore, the deplorable condition of the CCTV surveillance infrastructure is evident to everyone.

“We pledge to put an end to corruption within the municipal corporations. The BJP has been blinded by the arrogance of power and, consequently, is unable to perceive the problems faced by the public,” he promised.

“The BJP has even forgotten its own promises—be it the pledge to provide Rs 2,100 to women, the Rs 6,000 old-age pension, or the promise of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 3,100 for paddy; all have been forgotten. The state of law and order is so abysmal that a ‘rule of extortion’ now prevails, while inflation has reached such a critical level that the prices of gas cylinders are skyrocketing,” he said.

“There is no telling how much further petrol and diesel prices will rise—and such a hike could occur at any moment. The Congress party is contesting this election by focusing on issues that directly affect the common people—such as the NDC (No Objection Certificate) process, property IDs, and the arbitrary cancellation of ration cards. We will elevate Panchkula to new heights of cleanliness, beauty, and development,” he added.

Deepender also pointed out that, for the first time, the BJP has hatched a conspiracy to reduce SC reservation at the ward level within municipal corporations—a move against which the Congress party fought a vigorous battle.

The BJP has conspired to curtail reservations across the board. He appealed to the people of Panchkula to ensure the victory of Congress candidates in order to rein in the BJP’s corruption and to drive the development of Panchkula.

Earlier, he attended the charge-taking ceremony of Pearl Chaudhary—the newly appointed President of the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress—at the Haryana Congress headquarters in Chandigarh, where he extended his congratulations and best wishes to her.

On this occasion, numerous senior leaders were present, including former Union Minister Pawan Bansal; MPs Varun Chaudhary and Karamvir Baudh; former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA Chander Mohan Bishnoi; former MLAs Pradeep Chaudhary, Ch. Lahri Singh, Nishan Singh, and Arjun Singh; Mayoral candidate Sudha Bhardwaj; Ravindra Rawal; Manvir Kaur Gill; Congress District President Sanjay Chauhan; Divyanshu Budhiraja; District Presidents Dushyant Chauhan, Parag Gaba, Rajesh Vaid, Kuldeep KD, and Pankaj Dabar; Ashok Mehta; Shashi Sharma; Vijay Sharma; Chandvir Hooda; Anil Mehta; Jagdish Rai; Ravindra Kharad; Anoop Chauhan; Navdeep Sharma; Dhum Singh; Raman Tyagi; Sandeep Bhardwaj; Ajay Bansal; Pawan Jain; Darshan Lal; and former Minister Atar Singh Saini.
