In Munger, thugs in the guise of a saint robbed a couple, fled with jewellery and cash worth lakhs

A couple was victimised by thugs dressed as saints in Banhara Rai Tola of Gangta police station area. In the name of worship and removal of planetary defects, he first won trust, then escaped with Rs 55,000 cash and jewellery worth more than five lakh kept in the house. After the incident, the family is scared.

The victim, Ram Ashish Rai, said that on April 23 at around 9 am, a vehicle stopped outside his house. From it, a man in the guise of a saint got down with his two companions and went straight inside the house. Ram Ashish Rai’s wife was also present in the house at that time. The three first had a normal conversation and gradually engaged the family in religious discussions. The thugs told such things related to the family that the couple was surprised. Citing the eldest son’s appendix operation and planetary defects, he created an atmosphere of fear.

The thugs said that special puja will have to be performed at the Basukinath temple to get rid of the defects. It will cost 30 to 40 thousand rupees. Initially, the couple did not take things seriously, but after hearing the exact details of the family, they were deceived. When Ram Ashish Rai went to the room to give Rs 20,000 in the name of Pooja and opened the cupboard, then a thug noticed the cash and jewelry kept inside.

This is where the entire script of the fraud was prepared. The thugs acted cunningly. A man took Ram Ashish Rai out of the house on the pretext of taking him to the temple. The other kept his wife engaged in conversation.

Meanwhile, the third fraudster entered the house and escaped after collecting Rs 35,000 in cash and jewellery worth about five to six lakh rupees from the cupboard. After some time, when the couple reached the room, the matter came to light. Being old, they could not even resist in any way.

The incident was reported to the Gangta police on the same day, but a case was registered on April 26. The police are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity. Gangta police station in-charge Rahul Kumar said that a case has been registered against unidentified fraudsters. The accused will be identified soon.
