BJP president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday slammed Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for using the word terrorist for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The use of words like ‘terrorist’ for the prime minister by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is the height of Congress’s declining politics. This is not merely a comment on one individual, but also an insult to the mandate of those 1.4 billion countrymen who have expressed their trust through the democratic process.”
Nabin said whenever the Congress finds itself cornered on questions of development and facts, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and their disciples resort to such rhetoric to divert attention from the issues. When the country’s women power is demanding an account of their rights from the Congress, the emergence of such low-level statements reflects its desperation.
“The Congress and Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the country for such a statement. Whenever Rahul and his coterie have crossed the bounds of propriety in words, the public has given them a befitting response. This time too, the people will surely respond,” Nabin said.
The Congress has in the past too grappled with unsavoury poll-eve references for PM Modi. The one that is believed to have widely cost the party in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls was Manishankar Aiyar’s “chai wallah” description for Modi.
