Kurukshetra.
In Kurukshetra, near the government hospital in Jhansa village, a pack of dogs attacked a flock of sheep. More than 50 sheep were killed in the incident. This event has plunged the shepherd’s family into a financial crisis amounting to approximately five lakh rupees. Kuldeep, a resident of Salpani Kalan village, stated that 10 months ago, he had purchased 70 sheep by borrowing money at interest.
As was his daily routine, he was grazing the sheep in the Jhansa and Shanti Nagar areas alongside his cousin, Beera Ram, and companions, Baldev and Manish. As night fell, they halted along the banks of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal. Around 2:00 AM, a group of 10 to 12 dogs approached, which they managed to chase away. However, half an hour later, a larger pack of dogs returned to attack; by that time, all four men had fallen asleep.
In the attack, 25 sheep died on the spot, while another 25 to 30 sheep, terrified, jumped into the canal and were swept away by the current. Several other sheep also sustained injuries.
The livestock owner, Kuldeep, noted that the dogs did not consume the sheep; they merely killed them and left them lying there. The affected family has appealed to the administration for financial assistance so that they may resume their livelihood.
