Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) President Hemant Soren will take direct charge of the election campaign for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Starting March 28, he will be stationed in Assam, where he will address public rallies across various assembly constituencies alongside the party’s key leaders.

The party aims to make local issues, tribal identity, and regional rights its primary electoral agenda. The JMM has instructed all its star campaigners to reach Assam by March 27 and play an active role in the election campaign. The party’s engagement in Assam is not limited merely to an electoral presence; the JMM seeks to strengthen its identity at the national level and is specifically striving to establish a foothold in the tribal-dominated regions of the Northeast. The ‘Jharkhand Model’—which encompasses rights over local resources, land conservation, and social justice—will also be promoted in Assam.

The Party No Longer Wishes to Remain Confined Solely to Jharkhand
Party General Secretary Vinod Pandey is already stationed in Assam, where he is finalizing the election strategy. His mandate involves mobilizing the local organizational structure, building a network down to the booth level, and creating a favorable atmosphere for the candidates. The JMM has also submitted a list of 20 star campaigners to the Election Commission of India. In addition to Hemant Soren, this list includes Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed, Supriyo Bhattacharya, Joba Manjhi, Abhishek Prasad, Pankaj Mishra, Deepak Birua, Vijay Hansda, and other leaders.

The JMM’s active engagement in Assam signals that the party no longer intends to remain confined solely within the borders of Jharkhand. Hemant Soren’s direct leadership lends significant strength to this campaign. In the days to come, it will be interesting to observe the extent to which this endeavor by the JMM influences the election results and whether or not it opens up new political opportunities for the party.
