Delhi/Gurugram.
The Dwarka Expressway tunnel, which connects Delhi and Gurugram, has once again become a major hotspot for traffic congestion. In the evenings, the situation deteriorates to such an extent that a journey which should take just 5 minutes ends up taking 30 to 40 minutes. This is not an isolated incident; rather, it has become a recurring source of major inconvenience for commuters on a daily basis. On Wednesday evening, shortly after 5 PM, the situation worsened in precisely this manner. Even after paying the toll, motorists were forced to endure long wait times.
**What is the Cause of the Congestion? **
The primary reason cited for the traffic jam is the closure of the cut (access point) leading towards Kapa Shera. Previously, a significant volume of traffic used to be diverted through this cut; however, now all vehicles arriving from the Delhi-Jaipur Highway are entering the tunnel directly. This has resulted in increased pressure inside the tunnel, leading to congestion at the exit points. The situation is further exacerbated by the narrowing of the road near the Sector-21 roundabout.
**Conditions Deteriorate Every Evening**
Dipankar, a resident of the Puri Emerald Bay Society in Sector-104, states that the situation remains exactly the same every evening. Previously, a 4-kilometer journey could be completed in 10 minutes, but now it takes up to 30 minutes. On Wednesday, conditions were even worse, with people remaining stuck in traffic jams for up to 40 minutes. Meanwhile, Dheeraj, a resident of the India bulls Society in Sector-103, explained that the trouble begins the moment one enters the Dwarka Expressway tunnel, and there is no escape route until one reaches the exit. Consequently, commuters are often forced to remain stationary at the same spot for extended periods. Vimal, a resident of the Heritage Max Society in Sector-102, remarks that the relief people had hoped to gain from the tunnel is simply not materializing.
