Recruitment for 218 posts in the Department of Science and Technology was inconclusive, BPSC did not find eligible candidates.

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Tuesday said that it did not receive a single application in response to the advertisements issued last year for the vacancies of 218 posts in the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education. The BPSC said in a statement that the department wanted to appoint faculty members, including heads of department, in various polytechnic institutions. This has upset the BPSC, which normally screens a very large number of candidates. All this is happening in a state where the density of population is the highest in the country and the craze for government jobs is still there.

BPSC did not get a single candidate

BPSC said in an ‘Important Notice’, “It is hereby informed that BPSC had issued advertisements on August 26, 2025 for regular appointment to a total of 218 vacant posts of ‘Head of Department’ (HOD) in different departments/disciplines in Government Polytechnic and Government Women’s Polytechnic Institutions under the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education of Bihar.” No applications were received for nine of these advertisements. In view of this, fresh online applications were invited for the above mentioned advertisements as per the notice. However, even after that, the number of applications received for all these advertisements remained zero.

The Commission noted that since no further action was required at the level of the Commission in respect of these advertisements, the respective demand letters have been sent back to the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Bihar. Advertisements were issued for 218 posts of ‘Head of Department’ in 16 disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering (33), Computer Science and Engineering (43), Electrical Engineering (42), Civil Engineering (45) and Electronics Engineering (39).

Reacting to the development, Ahmad Mahmood, additional secretary of the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, told PTI, “The department has received information from BPSC in this regard. We will review it before deciding on the next course of action.
