Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday launched a major disclosure in the investigation of the murder of billionaire drug tycoon Vineet Minocha in Kanpur. According to the police, the murder was hatched by the businessman’s only son, Subrata Minocha. On the basis of interrogation and inputs received from the accused, the police have arrested Subrata. At the same time, if the role in the conspiracy to kill wife Shalu is not revealed in the investigation, the police are preparing to give him a clean chit and will file an application in the court for his release.

Subrata was immersed in debt and expensive hobbies

According to Police Commissioner Raghuvir Lal, during interrogation, it was revealed that Subrata was addicted to alcohol, gambling and betting. In an attempt to maintain expensive hobbies and his social status, he constantly drowned in debt. It was told that he had taken a loan of about Rs 40 lakh from different banks, whose monthly installment was about Rs 55 thousand. According to the police, Vineet Minocha used to pay him around Rs 40,000 per month for expenses. Apart from this, Subrata’s wife Shalu also got about Rs 14 lakh from her father Naresh Arora to repay her husband’s debt. Despite this, Subrata’s financial troubles did not end.

There was apprehension about the father’s property

During interrogation, Subrata told the police that his father had relations with several women. According to the police commissioner, Subrata claimed that his father was a colourful man and that is why his mother used to live separately from him. Subrata also told the police that his father had shown him pictures of some parties in Goa. According to the police, Subrata was apprehensive that his father might marry a woman and a new heir could join the family’s multi-crore property in the future. The police are now also probing the claim that this property apprehension was the reason behind the murder plot.

Police reached the son on the servant’s statement

In the case, the police had earlier detained the businessman’s servant Vishal and his accomplice Raj Kishore and interrogated them. According to the police, Vishal claimed during interrogation that he had killed Vineet Minocha at the behest of Subrata. Reportedly Subrata had promised him six lakh rupees, police said, adding that Subrata had also told Vishal to blame his wife Shalu for the murder if he was caught. After this statement, the focus of the police investigation went on Subrata and he was questioned.

Subrata was confronted in front of Shalu and Vishal.

On Wednesday, the police had taken Shalu, Vishal and Raj Kishore on 24-hour remand. During interrogation, Subrata was confronted in front of Shalu and Vishal. According to police sources, during this time, Shalu became emotional and accused her husband of implicating her in the case. The trio was then taken to the police line, where police commissioner Raghuvir Lal conducted several rounds of questioning separately and face-to-face. On the basis of the statements and other facts revealed during the interrogation, the police proceeded to take action regarding Subrata’s role.

Why did the daughter-in-law get a clean chit?

Initially, Shalu’s name also came up in the investigation of the businessman’s murder. The police took him into custody and interrogated him and also took him on remand. However, according to the police, during the investigation, sufficient facts about Shalu’s direct role in the conspiracy of murder did not come to light. Now the police are preparing to give Shalu a clean chit in this case and file an application in the court for her release. At the same time, Subrata has been arrested on charges of conspiring to kill his father. The police are now probing the entire conspiracy of murder, the alleged money transaction and the role of other people involved in the crime.
