Kanpur: A sensational robbery of Rs 4.31 lakh took place in broad daylight on the GT Road highway in Kanpur’s Shivrajpur area, police said on Sunday. The victim Abid was travelling in his car when a speeding Mahindra XUV500 car chased him and forcibly overtook his vehicle and stopped it. The miscreants in the XUV got out of the vehicle and smashed the glass of Abid’s car with sticks and snatched the bag full of money by showing weapons and fled from the spot. After this incident on the highway, there was an atmosphere of fear in the area and there was a stir in the police administration.
The loyal driver turned out to be a traitor
When the layers of this case were revealed with the help of the police’s thorough investigation and surveillance team, the shocking truth came out. The driver Asif on whom the owner Abid trusted the most turned out to be the main mastermind and informant of this entire conspiracy. Asif, along with his friend Sahil and other accomplices, had prepared a complete blueprint of this robbery. Blinded by the greed for money and drug addiction, he planned to rob his own master. The conspirators had lured the driver that he would be given Rs 2 lakh in cash as soon as the incident was completed and 50 percent of the total amount looted would also be his.
Police action and arrest of 5 accused
The police have arrested 5 accused in the conspiracy — Asif, Shivam, Mayank Saini, Ayush and Anuj Yadav. The police have also seized the XUV500 car used in the incident, which is registered in the name of the mother of the accused Rishi Saini. Apart from this, the stick used to break the glass of the car and cash of about Rs 1 lakh 19 thousand have been recovered from the looted money.
Police officials launched a manhunt for the other accused.
Giving full information about the case, DCP Qasim Abidi said that the police have taken swift action and disclosed the case. All the arrested accused are being sent to jail. At the same time, some accused are still absconding, to catch them, the police are raiding the place. The police claim that they will also be arrested soon.
