According to the Prisons Department, two cyber fraud criminals, whose accounts were used to divert funds, escaped from the Rewari jail on Friday. Both of them were finally arrested in 24 hours.
Taking a strict view of the incident, DG Prisons Alok Mittal sent IG Prisons B.Satheesh Balan and another senior officer to conduct an inquiry on Saturday. They visited the Rewari jail and, on preliminary inquiry, found “negligence” on the part of seven jail warders.
Sources informed that the inquiry found that the warders didn’t facilitate the escape, but their act was negligent.
A regular inquiry will follow against the suspended jail officials. “If it comes out that senior officials are also involved, the action would be taken against them as well,” said a senior officer.
Director-General, Prisons, Alok Mittal, confirmed the development.
Zahid (21) and Faizan (22) are undertrial prisoners. During the evening roll call on Friday, the jail officials discovered that Zahid, a resident of Etawah (Uttar Pradesh), and Faizan, a resident of Rampur (Uttar Pradesh), were missing from their cells. Around 8:30 pm, the local police were informed.
A manhunt was launched after forming the teams. While Zahid was arrested on Saturday morning, special teams were dispatched to Rampur to nab Faizan and he was arrested by Saturday evening.
It is learnt that they allegedly took advantage of the construction works in the Rewari jail, used a ladder, and scaled the walls.
Both are being interrogated to know how they executed the escape plan.
A case has been registered with Rewari Police against them.
